NYC FOODIE QUICK BITE: ED'S CHOWDER HOUSE
Last week I had a lunch (with a stunningly beautiful Director of PR for a restaurant group) at Ed's Chowder House (formerly Center Cut), a new seafood restaurant in the Empire Hotel. Ed's is brought to us by Jeffrey Chodorow's China Grill Management empire and consulting chef Ed Brown.

It's a beautiful, clean space, with high ceilings, that had a Southampton feel to it.

We started with a chowder sampler ($12), a selection of oysters ($2.75 each), and the tuna sliders ($5 each).

The three chowders were a sweet corn, a New England style clam, and a Manhattan style blue crab. They were all fine, the highlight for me was the sweet corn, which was sweet and had a little kick to it as well.

The oysters were extremely fresh and delicious! It felt like they just came off the boat!

The tuna sliders were also nice, and the addition of a chipotle mayo gave a nice to kick to them as well.

For our main course we had the lobster roll ($24) and the Chatham cod ($24).

The lobster roll was silky, fresh, and truly wonderful! The mayo was light which I liked, and the roll was sweet and perfect.

The Chatham cod came with a potato chip crust, spinach, and a mustard sauce. The fish was perfectly cooked and tasted extremely fresh. The potato chip crust gave a great crunch and added a beautiful texture complement to the tender fish. The mustard sauce was soothing and balanced out the dish perfectly. It was a great fish dish.

We also had a side of seasoned fries ($6) and a jalapeno corn gratin ($6). The fries were surprisingly awesome, and the corn gratin was addictive and great!

Of course after all this seafood we had to save a little room for dessert, so we ordered the chocolate donut holes with kahlua creme ($8) which were a sweet ending to a fine meal.

So for a fine seafood experience for lunch or dinner, definitely stop by Ed's Chowder House.

NYC FOODIE HOT SPOT OF THE WEEK: ABE & ARTHUR'S
Last night I went to Abe & Arthur's, the two week old "hot spot" that used to be Lotus. Abe and Arthur's comes to us from Eugene Remme and Mark Birnbaum, the team behind the exclusive club Tenjune, and the new lounge SL. Manning the stoves is Chef Franklin Becker (Brasserie), cooking up some great modern American dishes.

The two floor space was packed when I got there at 10pm. It seemed more like a Thursday or Friday night, than a Tuesday; it was hopping! It's a gorgeous space (designed by iCrave), hip, cool, and beautiful, just like its clientele. I first took a table to myself on the second floor, but then noticed a friend of mine (editor of In Touch Weekly) sitting with another friend (via Facebook) of mine down below, so I joined them. I would like to think I was the only celebrity there, but alas, to my right was Mickey Rourke, and to my left was Harvey Keitel.

I just tried two dishes briefly: the meatballs ($13) and a side of mac and cheese ($10). The meatballs were tasty and delicious, sweet and with a touch of spiciness; the sauce was spot on. The mac and cheese was perfect and addicitve.

If you are looking to drink and dine within the true scene of NYC, this is the spot to do it in. Just don't be surprised if you find yourself in Page 6 the following day; it's bound to happen.

NYC FOODIE WINE OF THE WEEK: LUCE WINES
A few weeks ago I was lucky enough to get invited to a wine tasting for Luce Wines, a fabulous Italian vineyard. Luce was the first wine ever produced in Montalcino by blending Sangiovese and Merlot. I was able to tast a bunch of different vintages, from a smooth 2006 to an amazing and seductive 1997, this was some of the best Italian wines I had ever tasted. I definitely recommend heading the your nearest wine store and picking up a bottle!

TABLE FOR ONE: YERBA BUENA (PERRY ST.)
Last night I was invited by a gal friend to have birthday cocktails with her and 7 of her girlfriends at Yerba Buena (Perry St.), the second outpost of Chef Julian Medina's (Toloache) Latin restaurant. I was very excited to say the least for 2 reasons: 1. I have not been to the first Yerba Buena in the East Village, and have been wanting to go for a while, and 2. I would be having cocktails with 7 girls.

I got to the restaurant and the place was packed! There really was not much decor to the place, a few cool looking edison light bulbs was the extent of it. But, you don't come to Yerba Buena for the decor, you come for the food and drink! I took a seat at the bar and was taken care of by Alex, a gracious bartender who would concoct different and unusual off-menu cocktails for me throughout the night. (I would be meeting the girls at their table for dessert.) I started with the Chupa Cabra; Herradura Blanco, cucumber, lime, mint, and Cholula (hot sauce). The drink was refreshing and great, and the addition of Cholula gave it the perfect kick to start off my meal.

I ordered the arepas ($13), fish tacos ($13), and red jalapeno fries ($6).

The arepas came with coffee glazed pork belly and cabbage slaw. I must tell you that they were amazing! The sweetness of the pork belly balanced perfectly with the tartness of the slaw. The slaw gave a great crunch to the dish as well. These arepas were some of the best bites I have put in my mouth all year!

The fish tacos came with tilapia Baja style and chipotle-mango slaw. They too, were quite excellent, delicious, and amazing!

The fries were fine, but really nothing special, so I sent them back and ordered the manchego cheese croquettes with pickled jalapeņo, and salsa verde ($8). This was a smart move because these little croquettes were small bites of deliciousness! They were extremely addictive and the perfect snack to go with one of Yerba Buena's great cocktails.

After this great meal and a few drinks I stopped by my friend's bday table filled with ladies and desserts. It was pretty much heaven- especially when I dipped my spoon into the Yerba Buena Dulce De Leche Sundae ($9) with bananas, candied pecans, and dulce de leche. I only had one spoonful, but that was all I needed to give me a culinary orgasm. I couldn't tell which I enjoyed more- that sundae or all the women.

Yerba Buena is an amazing place for great cocktails and great Latin cuisine. I will tell you that it is extremely loud inside, the acoustics are awful, and I had to scream throughout the night. So, I recommend not talking, just drinking and eating, and you will be one satisfied customer. I know I was.
