I ordered the full English breakfast ($21): fried egg, pork sausage, bacon, tomato, and mushrooms. It was the perfect brunch. The pork sausage is made in-house and the bacon is smoked in-house, and both were fabulous. If i wasn't detoxing I would have paired it with a bloody mary, but alas, I went buzzless. Nonetheless, my brunch hit the spot.

( 3.1 / 90 )Ok, it's true, I might be addicted to the Ace Hotel. I go every week. Sometimes 4 times a week. It's a one stop shop for welcoming hip and cool. Great food at The Breslin, amazing sandwiches at No. 7 Sub, and some of the city's best coffee at Stumptown Coffee, where else do I need to go?! I now truly love the corner of 29th and Broadway, call me crazy.
Two Sundays ago I stopped in to grab a quick bite at the lobby bar at 1am (it's open til 2am). The food at the Ace's lobby bar comes from the kitchen at The Breslin, with slightly different offerings. I really like the lamb burger at The Breslin, so I was curious about the bacon cheese burger ($16) offered at the lobby bar. And my curiosity paid off, for it is a really good burger! Juicy and flavorful, definitely hit the spot and satisfied my 1am burger craving. The fries are excellent too!

( 3 / 97 )For some reason I have been eating more Mexican lately, not sure why. Maybe it's because there are some new spots that have opened up that are worth trying. One of these places is Los Feliz in the Lower East Side. This taqueria/taquileria not only has great food, but one of the most amazing extensive (over 150!) tequila lists in town, that you can pair with chef Julia Ballesteros' creative tacos.
Los Feliz is a mind-blowing space. A three floor tequila haven. The top floor is the most innocent, one floor below is darker and sexier, and the bottom floor is not only sexy, but beautiful, and sets the perfect vibe for your imbibing.
It doesn't matter what floor you consume these tacos on, for they are great. I had two types of tacos (two in an order). The barbacoa ($8) was slow cooked beef cheek in banana leaf, Mexican beer, tequila, oregano, and lime flavored roasted onions. I also had the Puerco ($8), braised pork, chili passilla, cotija cheese, corn, and pico de gallo. Both types of tacos were excellent! The meat had great flavor, and I loved how they were unique and not your typical run-of-the-mill tacos. After downing four tacos in less than 5 minutes (I timed myself) I couldn't stop thinking about coming back to try the rest!
So get your tequila and taco on at Los Feliz for one of the sexiest taqueria experiences ever. Tequila and tacos; sounds like a magical evening to me!

( 3.1 / 90 )La Esquina is a cool place. Its downstairs dining room is a sexy lair of Mexican goodness. Their taqueria is where I frequent most though, for that late night Mexican fix; and it is great. Last week I grabbed a fish taco ($3.95) with mahi mahi, shredded cabbage and salsa verde. It was perfect and satisfied my 2am munchie craving. I also had a lovely grilled corn ($2.50) with a nice char to it that I devoured! So satisfy your Mexican cravings at La Esquina, for one of the coolest Mexican experiences around.

( 2.9 / 76 )The gastropub. A bar that has a strong focus on the food as well as the drinks. I'm thinking about The Spotted Pig and Spitzer's Corner, to name a couple. And now, I am also thinking of West 3rd Common. This is a spot in NOHO I had never even heard of, until I was lucky enough to get invited to a meal here this past week. This is a spot that is under the radar in my opinion, but the food here is quite tasty and good.
Duck sliders ($10) with kimchi and sweet hoisen were wonderful. I loved the balance of the sweetness of the hoisen and the spiciness of the kimchi. The kimchi added nice texture too.
Crawfish Monica ($9), a classic New Orleans staple with crawfish in a spicy cream sauce tossed with rotini was something I have never experienced, and I am glad I did. My dining companion and I could not stop eating this dish! The cream sauce had just the right amount of kick to it and was extremely addictive. I craved bread to soak up the sauce, but was glad there was none, for I didn't want to put too many calories on!
The Common Burger ($11) with cheddar, tomato, arugula, and sautéed onions, and herbed aioli, served with garlic french fries (I added bacon too for $1-was on a diet) was excellent. The burgers here are steamed, which creates a nice crust on the outside and lovely juiciness on the inside; it was devoured within minutes!
There is a good rendition of Spicy Fried Chicken ($16) with cheddar and smoked gouda mac and cheese and mustard slaw too. The skin had a nice flavor, and the meat of the chicken was juicy and tender.
So, if you are craving a bar with great food, West 3rd Common is the spot that hits the spot! PS. Look out for their new Spring additions April 22nd, with such dishes as catfish ceviche and kim chi tamales. Yummo!
