NYC FOODIE LUNCH OF THE WEEK: AUREOLE
Last week I had lunch at Charlie Palmer's Aureole, his recently moved restaurant, which is now in the Bank Of America tower at Bryant Park. It was a fabulous lunch with perfectly executed, delicious food!

Pastrami Pork Belly Sliders ($15) with raclette cheese, cole slaw and Russian dressing were addictively good.

A Smoked Duck Foie Gras Terrine ($23) with quince, port jelly, endive remoulade, and pain d'epice, was a geometric work of art, with flavors and textures perfectly complemented.

My entree of Duck Confit ($25) with sweet potato puree, black trumpet mushrooms, and blackberry duck jus, might have been the most perfectly cooked duck I have ever had! The crackling skin, the tender meat, and everything on this plate was ingenius, and teased my taste buds with every bite.

A Yellowfin Tuna Tataki ($21) with spicy Asian greens, cilantro, scallion, and miso lychee dressing was simple, refreshing, and a salad you'd desire to eat on a daily basis.

When dining at Aureole you MUST stay for dessert because they are exceptional!

A Caramel Corn Sundae ($8) with chocolate sauce, bananas, and salted peanut butter cookies was playful and truly wonderful.

The Meyer Lemon Panna Cotta ($10) with citrus salad, fennel croutons, and savory honey was ingenious, amazing, mind-blowing, and a true work of art!

Come to Aureole for lunch or dinner, dine on perfectly executed, smart food, and smile. I sure did.

TABLE FOR ONE: GEORGIA'S EASTSIDE BBQ
Last week I stopped by Georgia's Eastside BBQ to get my fried chicken on. I love fried chicken and Georgia's ($14) has some of the best I have ever had. In fact, it was truly perfect! Splendid crispy skin, with juicy tender meat, I could not ask for a better fried chicken. A side of sweet collard greens and some potato skins were satisfying too. So, whatever side you're on, get yourself to the Lower East Side, to Georgia's Eastside BBQ, and get your fried chicken on too!

NYC FOODIE QUICK BITE: BILL'S BAR AND BURGER
I have been to Bill's Bar and Burger a few times now, Steve Hanson's new burger spot in the Meatpacking district, and will tell you that it has some of the best burgers in town. My favorite burger there is the Fatcat, which comes with caramelized onion, and American cheese on an English muffin served with lettuce, tomato and pickles on the side. For $6.95 it is also an amazing bang for your buck! Order a side of Disco fries ($4.50), French fries smothered with gravy and melted cheese, and you are good for the night!

NYC FOODIE CHINATOWN RESTAURANT OF THE WEEK: XI'AN FAMOUS FOODS
Friday afternoon I grabbed a quick lunch at Xi'an Famous foods in Chinatown, the third outpost (first in Manhattan) of the popular Flushing restaurant, that was visited by Anthony Bourdain on his show "No Reservations". I read a brief write up about this spot by Sam Sifton, restaurant reviewer of the New York Times, and it definitely seemed worthy of a trip.

The place is really just for take-out, it is extremely small. There is maybe enough space for three people to eat on a small metal counter, so don't come here expecting to sit comfortably. I will tell you that what I ordered was powerful, flavorful, and great!

I had the savory cumin lamb burger with jalapenos, onions, and scallions, and stuffed into a crispy warm bun. For $2.50, this not only one of the best bangs for my buck I have ever had, it was also one of the best "burgers" I have ever had. There was so much flavor packed into this bun I was completely satisfied.

I also ordered the spicy and tingly beef hand-pulled noodles for $5.00. This was spice-boiled slices of beef served with their house hot sauce and Chinese pepper powder with hand-pulled noodles. Again, this was a great dish with a lot of powerful flavor. This dish was not for the weak though, it was pretty spicy and did make me tingle with sweat, but it was great! The noodles were perfectly cooked too, made right in front of me, so I saw how fresh they were.

So for a great bang for your buck in Chinatown, Xi'an Famous Foods hits the spot. Just remember to bring a tissue to wipe your brow. This food is hot!
